MOLESTATION AT STAIND SHOW

According to The Brookings Register, Brookings, South Dakota police on Sunday evening (July 26) arrested a 20-year-old city man on several charges, including aggravated assault and sexual contact with a child under 16.

Police Chief Jeff Miller said the man, who was attending the STAIND concert at the Swiftel Center, allegedly molested a 14-year-old female and then body-slammed a 15-year-old male. The male victim, bleeding from the mouth, was transported by ambulance to the Brookings hospital, where he was treated and released.

There is no drama. We're still boys. Sorry to disappoint."As such, the Rhode Island band is looking for a replacement. Hybrid Remote Control Lawn Mowers

I know some of my posts have nothing to do with hardcore, or Denver, but I though this was pretty interesting

Lawn care professionals typically use a bunch of men equipped with 2-stroke weed eaters to maintain slopes over 30 degrees. They are now able to maintain slopes up to 70 degrees with one man and a SRX22T hybrid remote control lawn mower. The hybrid power system on these mowers also keep the battery charged. It is a win-win situation for the lawn care professional and the environment. Read more here.

THE POLLS ARE NOW CLOSED

Killing Kings
is voted the "best retired band" in Denver Hardcore. If you didn't get to see them when they were around, then you missed out big time. All the other bands on the poll were very memorable, but Killing Kings obviously made there mark. In Second was "As We Speak", and in third was "In The Crosshairs".. Thanks for adding so much to the scene, and laying the ground for others in the scene.

Here is a little somethin' somethin' about Killing Kings...

"Killing Kings was formed in the fall of 2004 with one small goal in mind, change everything and challenge everyone. In a society and government that is so corrupt and obsessed with greed and power there are a few of us that stand out, That stand up with a menacing look and our fists in the air screaming “Kill All Kings!” General Discontent would be a light way to put it. We believe that Hardcore and punk should be dangerous ,daring, courageous, brave, intelligent, compassionate, humble and modest all while saying. “NO! we are NOT going to do what you tell us” and if you try to make us we will fight to our last breath for what we believe in. We think hardcore and punk have become so “dumbed down” for the masses and “pimped out” for fashion and music videos that we are losing a part of our culture, a part of history that we made as individuals who were fed up with the expectations and shallow goals of mainstream and pop culture. We don’t care how we are looked at by the “cool crowd”. We came to get away from the cool crowd, to find our own path and hopefully encourage people to realize that it doesn’t matter what your clothes or your hair look like and that it doesn’t matter if you don’t fit a certain tax bracket or social class. What matters is that you made your decisions for yourself and not based on what others think of you. Killing Kings’ music is a byproduct of that anger and discontent, but also the passion and drive to be so much more than just a name on a t-shirt or logo on a CD. But to have the perseverance and fortitude to look the world in the face and say “bring it on”."

CHECK THIS SHIT OUT!

ILL INTENT, GRAVEMAKER BLAST O MAT JULY 2009

Second 16th Street Mall shuttle catches fire

A shuttle bus on the 16th Street Mall in Denver caught fire this morning, the second such fire in eight days.
No one was injured in this morning's incident.
The bus smoked and caught fire at about 6:15 a.m. at the turnaround station at Broadway, said Daria Serna, an RTD spokeswoman.
"Our crew saw lots of flame roiling under the bus," said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.
All passengers were off the bus when the fire broke out, Serna said, and Denver firefighters quickly put out the blaze.
The fire ignited in an area of the bus that stores batteries, the same area in which a fire started on another shuttle bus last week. No one was injured in the July 7 fire. The driver pulled the bus off the mall and onto Tremont Place in that incident.
RTD is currently refurbishing its shuttle fleet, Serna said. She didn't know whether the two buses that caught fire had already been worked on or whether they were awaiting a makeover.

Thousands get up early for "Idol" worship... American Idol Auditions in Denver

By dawn Sunday, the line of eager "American Idol" hopefuls circled Mile High Walk at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High. Penned behind bicycle racks and yellow tape, they stood seven deep, inching past portable restrooms and security, wearing PJs and shorts, and toting blankets, folding chairs, signs, guitars and doughnuts.

More than 4,000 people lined up in the early-morning hours, estimated Patrick Lynn, "American Idol" supervisor producer. He said he expected double that number by the end of auditions Tuesday.

To get to this point, they had hitchhiked, borrowed money and forfeited sleep, some traveling from as far away as Hawaii, a few for a second or third try at getting on the No. 1-rated show on television.

Westword 2007: Denver Hardcore: Q&A with Memphis of Fight Like Hell and Sox's Place

Hardcore is one of the purest forms of expression in music. More visceral than cerebral, the music is simple, direct and explosive. There’s no pretense or subtext -- nothing to analyze. And, refeshingly, its practioners and enthusiasts are generally as straight-forward and no-nonsense as the music, which means they’re unaffected by the trends and trappings of the industry. There’s no carrot to dangle here. The bands aren’t clamoring for press or stepping over each other for accolades. Instead, it’s all about the music and looking after one another – which couldn’t be any clearer, as evidenced by my recent conversation with Fight Like Hell’s drummer Memphis. The subject of my October 18 column, who’s band is at the center of Denver’s hardcore scene and who books Sox’s Place, Memphis talks about the genesis of Mile High hardcore and Sox’s Place, in addition to weighing in on FSU, the controversial East Coast hardcore crew, and discussing how Denver’s scene compares to other cities.

Westword: Can you tell me a little bit about the scene and how it got started?

Memphis: Basically, everything is pretty much based around Sox’s Place. We do anywhere between three-five shows a month. We used to have shows at a place called Garageland before that place got torn down. It was off 27th and Walnut, in kind of like a shitty area – which, I think now they’re condos, so maybe it’s not that shitty. But we did shows there for a while; we did some stuff at Climax Lounge, when it was called the Raven.
Pretty much, honestly, I think as far as Denver hardcore scene, we’re probably going on a decline right now. I think kids kind of get spoiled when a lot of stuff comes through. They start to become elitists, and less kids come out for every band; they come out just for the band they want to see, and the shows suffer as a whole. About a year and a half ago, we were pretty much peaked. It didn’t matter what show we did – there was kids there. It’s in a bit of decline, but everything works in cycles. So I’m sure it will work its way back up. Read more here.

Bathroom cam leads to charges for UNC professor

Weld County prosecutors filed sexual misconduct charges Tuesday against a University of Northern Colorado theater professor accused of secretly videotaping young men as they used his toilet.
Vance Fulkerson, 63, faces one felony count of sexual exploitation of a child, one misdemeanor count of unlawful sexual contact and one count of marijuana possession.
Fulkerson was arrested Thursday after police discovered a wireless video camera hidden in an alarm clock on the back of the toilet in his home.
Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych said the camera, which filmed guests urinating or showering, fed into a TV in Fulkerson's bedroom. He said police found "numerous" recorded tapes and DVDs in his bedroom. In a locked safe,
police found 29 images of boys as young as 5 in provocative poses.
Fulkerson, a professor at UNC for 18 years, has been placed on administrative leave. He posted $5,000 bond and is due in court July 30.

HELP

I've only lived in Denver for about three years now. So I don't know all the history of the scene here. I'm just going off what I've seen on Myspace, and word of mouth. I noticed nobody other than one or two people making a difference with the Denver scene via Internet. I would like to see more kids at shows. We live in a different world so to speak than how it was ten twelve years ago. I believe more people are using the Internet for music than ever. So I decided to great this site to open more lines of communication. Any help would be appreciated...

First thing I would like to know... Is there any past bands I've missed? If so please leave any band I missed in the comments.

Thanks I've gotten a better response from this site than I thought. So spread the word, and keep check back for updates.

-Chris W.

ILL INTENT

REIGN SUPREME TESTING THE LIMITS OF INFINITE

"Testing The Limits Of Infinite" is Reign Supreme's highly anticipated debut full length album. Produced by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (Lamb Of God, VOD, Every Time I Die), "Testing The Limits..." takes the accessible metallic hardcore foundation popularized by many, and injects a fresh warm blood deep within it. The result is a new breed of anthemic metallic hardcore; immaculately executed, intensely heavy, and refreshingly unpredictable. Songs like "Persevere And Overcome" and "Slipping Away" smash through expectations with earth moving power, while the introspective instrumental "Waiting" as well as the winding "To Live And Die (In Vain)" show a sonic diversity rarely found in heavy music. Proving that Reign Supreme are a true anomaly in today's music world, playing the role of both the hammer and the nail.
Collectors Note: There are 3 colorways of this 12"LP available thru the DW Estore. If you order 3 copies, we'll do our best to get you all three colorways.
Pick it up here.

Fastest-growing city in Colorado last year...Goes to?...(Drum roll)

MEAD???

Tucked away off Interstate 25 halfway between Denver and Fort Collins lies Colorado's latest growth hot spot.

Mead, once a sleepy agricultural town, was the fastest-growing city in Colorado last year, according to a new Census Bureau report released today.

The report also highlighted Denver's recent growth spurt. For the first time, Denver broke into the ranks of the 25 most populous cities in the U.S.

"Denver still surprises us," said state demographer Elizabeth Garner.

Mead grew by 8.4 percent last year to 3,408 residents, becoming the latest city in Weld County to lead the state in growth this decade.
