FRIDAY NOVEMBER 27: SLEEPING GIANT

MEMBERS OF ANTHRAX, FALL OUT BOY AND EVERYTIME I DIE FORM SIDE PROJECT, THE DAMNED THINGS

Blabbermouth.net-- U.K.'s Rock Sound magazine reported earlier today (note: the article has since been removed from the web site) that members of Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die and Anthrax have teamed up to form the metal side-project The Damned Things.

The band is said to include Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley; Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley and Anthrax guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano. The group, whose lineup is rounded out by bassist David Karon, has reportedly written more than 15 songs and plans to hit the studio before Christmas to begin recording its debut album.

Trohman reportedly stated about The Damned Things: "Scott's right hand is the reason I got into playing punk rock, hardcore and metal! Having Keith as part of the mix is insane, we all know he writes incredible lyrics but he is also a really good singer. That is showcased in Every Time I Die, but we want him to go more into singing than screaming on this project."

SPRAY PAINT THE WALLS: THE STORY OF BLACK FLAG TO BE RELEASED THIS MONTH

PunkNews.org -- Music publisher Omnibus Press has announced a new book covering the history of hardcore pioneers, Black Flag. The book is titled Spray Paint The Walls: The Story of Black Flag and is due out later this November 2009.

Assembled by Stevie Chick, the book features older interviews with Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn and a new interview with Chuck Dukowski. According to SST Records-affiliated Joe Carducci,

The story, laid out from the band's earliest practices in 1976 to its end ten years later, makes a far more dramatic book than the usual shelf-fillers with their stretch to make the empty stories of various chart-toppers sound exciting and crucial and against the odds.

DENVER MAN: HERO

His grandfather's advice to always carry a sharp knife made Michael Zamora a bus stop hero on Oct. 9.
For springing into action and cutting down a man trying to hang himself, Zamora was honored by Denver police today as a Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero.
"Through his selfless actions, Mr. Zamora helped save the life of a fellow human being," Denver police said in a statement.
Zamora told police at the scene he always heeded his grandfather's advice to carry a knife, which he used to cut the leather belt the despondent man used to try to hang himself at the bus stop at East Colfax and Broadway.
Without help from anyone, Zamora cut down the man, called 9-1-1 and stayed with the man until help arrived, police said.
Zamora was lauded at Denver Police headquarters by Chief Gerald Whitman and Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund, which sponsors the award.

WESTWORD REVIEWS BANKROBBER: VULTURES

You won't like Vultures if you can't get past its throaty, nearly screamo vocals or the alloy of hardcore and thrash and lyrics that read like an unabashed screed against society's ills and personal angst. If, however, you want to hear a record in which a band displays dynamic shifts that place it outside any easily pegged genre without compromising its heaviness, this is worthy of your consideration. RULE GETS COURT REVIEW

DENVERPOST—Medical marijuana rules are headed to a Denver judge.
Denver District Court Judge Larry Naves has scheduled a hearing Tuesday morning on state regulations limiting who can supply the drug to patients.

The state board of health temporarily narrowed the definition last week. But medical marijuana supporters are asking Naves to block those limits from taking effect, saying the state didn't give enough notice of the vote.

The question is about the definition of "caregiver" and who can supply marijuana to people who medically qualify to use the drug. It's unclear how long it will take Naves to decide whether to block the new rule.

The state health board is planning to make its final decision on Dec. 16.

BANKROBBER TONIGHT:INFO

"I'm sure most of you know the details by now, but in case you didn't, just want to drop some info.

At the record release we are giving away 50 free 7"s to the first 50 to show up. Or maybe the first 40, and the other 10 to the first to get moshtastic. IDK. The record wasn't cheap to make, so this is a pretty good deal.

Anyway, The artwork was done by Jef Kopp from Th'ink Tank and the front looks like this:

The records are purplish black and silver...(go Rockies?) and will come with a free digital download card of the 7" (remastered) as well.

Most of you in Denver know that these songs have been floating around for a while, and probably already have some or all 6 songs. But the remaster is a much better mix in my opinion, and the record and artwork came out great, so I think its something worth having.

I got to admit I was bummed with the way shit was going for BANKROBBER for a few months. We basically recorded the record, got it mixed and mastered, got pumped on it, and then BAM!, MJ got in a car accident that kept up from being able to tour, much less release the record. Kind of the way things seem to work for us.(Big thanks to B. Howell for filling in so we could at least do some shows at Blast O)

Well I guess the shit happened for a reason, because right as we started looking into putting it out ourselves, Andrew from Runner Up Records hit us up and said he wanted to put it out. He said he was starting another label that he wanted to be more focused on hardcore. His other label put out 7" from the Shook Ones, and a lot of East Coast/Philly area bands as well, so we were stoked.

BANKROBBER is going to be his first release on Hydrogen Man Records. http://www.hydrogenmanrecords.com And it looks like the second will be a Swallowed Up/Black Kites split. Andrew was playing bass for Domino Theory, but has a new band called Bearings, that I like a lot, they've got a Fugazi vibe. Check em out here: http://www.myspace.com/bearingsphiladelphia

Anyway, I really am proud of the 6 songs on Vultures, and I'm glad the record is finally coming to a physical format, and hope everyones into it.

As for the record release, Sin Vida kicks it off. http://www.myspace.com/SinVidaCholoPunx
Before Were Done follow. http://www.myspace.com/bwddenver
Nothing to Nothing heavy Midwest HxC third. http://www.myspace.com/nothingtonothing
Then BANKROBBER. www.myspace.com/bankrobberhc

We got a fun little intro planned and then we will turn it up to 11. We were gonna do a cover, but like our new song so much we said fuck it and we're playing that instead.

If you can, repost this on your myspace, facebooks, whatever, and let's try and get a good vibe going for Friday. Bring a friend or 2. Hope to see you there." -G.
